Indianapolis Colts: 5 replacements for Chuck Pagano
By Phil Naegely
4. Chip Kelly
He hasn’t been unemployed long and won’t be without a job for much of 2016. Chip Kelly was basically fired for being a bad general manager with the Eagles. In reality, he’s a good football coach as he showed at Oregon and throughout his three-year tenure with the Philadelphia Eagles.
If the Colts want a coach who can work with a high-caliber quarterback, then Kelly is your man. Kelly didn’t have the opportunity to work with a star at the quarterback position in Philadelphia. Sam Bradford was an improvement over Nick Foles, but a depleted offensive line won’t be helpful no matter who is the quarterback.
Indianapolis would be smart to consider bringing in Kelly as a coach. He is good at developing a vision and working towards goals. However, what ever they do he should not be given free reign to make player personnel decisions by himself.
While Kelly’s time in Philadelphia wasn’t a success overall, he showed glimpses of success as a coach and hasn’t lived up to his full potential yet. As a result, his services at both the professional and collegiate levels will be in high demand in 2016.
