5 perfect NFL fits for Christian Hackenberg
5. St. Louis Rams
The St. Louis Rams are always a quarterback away from competing for a playoff spot in the NFC. The Rams have no problem battling within their division due to their physicality, but the lack of a quarterback consistently keeps the team hovering around a .500 record every year.
Nick Foles clearly hasn’t worked out as expected this season, which means the team will likely either move on via a new short-term option in free agency or a quarterback in the draft. They do have an exciting piece for the future in Todd Gurley, so whoever comes in will have weapons.
With the team having their next superstar running back in place, adding their next potential quarterback in Christian Hackenberg could be the right move for the Rams.
It’s unclear what the future is in terms of where they might play or what the coaching makeup will look like, but if they could get a short-term option in free agency and have Hackenberg learn on the bench for a little bit, one of a myriad of question marks would be shored up.
At 6-foot-4 and 230 pounds, Hackenberg has the arm and the size that could be what the Rams need. They have speed at the receiver position and Hackenberg can certainly throw it deep. With a guy like Gurley in the backfield, Hackenberg can feed him a steady diet of hand-offs and then burn teams with the deep bomb to a guy like Tavon Austin.
They’ve had trouble finding their future quarterback, but that doesn’t mean that Hackenberg wouldn’t be a nice fit with the Rams. They drafted Sean Mannion in the third round of the 2015 draft, but there’s nothing wrong with doubling up on talent and getting some competition going to find the next Rams quarterback.
