Dallas Stars center Jason Spezza has become the 137th player in NHL history with 500 career assists.

The Dallas Stars‘ Jason Spezza has quietly put together a fairly impressive NHL career. He already had 282 goals and 780 points going into Tuesday’s action. Against the New York Rangers, Spezza got his 500th career assist. He is the 137th player in history with 500 assists and one of the 18 active players to achieve that milestone.

Jason Spezza has played for the Ottawa Senators and the Dallas Stars. He was drafted by the Senators with the second overall pick of the 2001 NHL Draft. He joined the Senators during the 2002-2003 season when the Senators won the President’s Trophy. He had 251 goals and 436 assists with the Senators before being traded to the Stars during the 2014 offseason.

He has seen his points per game drop from just over one in Ottawa to 0.79 in Dallas, but part of that is due to decreased ice time. The drop has been especially noticeable at even strength. Spezza has happily accepted a second line center role in Dallas with Tyler Seguin as their first line center as he tries to chase the elusive Stanley Cup.

Spezza has been known as one of the deadliest power play centers in the NHL for quite some time. He could have an outside shot at the Hall of Fame should he continue his current pace and remain healthy. 1,000 points is well within range for him.
