Ole Miss. Laremy Tunsil. 1. player. 35.
The Tennessee Titans made a strong step forward in their efforts to rebuild by selecting Marcus Mariota second overall in last years draft. Through the former Oregon Ducks rookie season, we’ve seen some great games and some not so great games. The two constants in those not great games were a lack of protection and working on a bad knee. In order to maximize Mariota’s potential in the NFL, the Titans need to do everything they can to protect him and allow him to get the ball down field to his receivers. The Titans receiving corp has some great potential buried inside rookies Dorial Green-Beckham and Tre McBride, as well as veterans Kendall Wright and Delanie Walker.

The franchise now has the first overall pick for the first time since 1978 when they were the Oilers. With that first overall pick, Tennessee addresses the protection issue head-on and selects Ole Miss Offensive Tackle Laremy Tunsil. While selecting an offensive tackle isn’t a sexy move in the eyes of fans, Tunsil is a great option for Tennessee at number one. Titans quarterbacks have been sacked 50 times, which is the second most in the NFL.

Tunsil has the athleticism, size, and balance to handle most NFL pass rushers. Usually when you have an lineman who’s got a large frame they tend to lose leverage and balance. Tunsil keeps his pad levels at a consistent height and he sets himself up well to take on rushers. In a division that faces JJ Watt twice a year, protecting the quarterback is key for future success.
