Paxton Lynch. 7. player. 42.
Originally looking to take the hometown kid Jared Goff, the San Francisco 49ers settle with Memphis quarterback Paxton Lynch. Now when I say they have to settle for him, I’m not saying Lynch is tremendously far off talent wise from Goff. For now though, Goff is strongly considered to be the top guy in 2016.

As for Paxton Lynch, the young quarterback out of Memphis took college football by storm this year. He finished his final college season with nearly 3,800 passing yards, 28 touchdowns, and a 157.5 quarterback rating. All of those stats ended up being career highs for Lynch. While his performance against Auburn in the Birmingham Bowl didn’t blow scouts away, it certainly won’t deter them from taking a close look over the next couple months.

While he’s known for having reliable mobility, Lynch will be best suited as a pocket passer in the NFL. He shows excellent accuracy and at 6’7 he can read the field much better than smaller quarterbacks over large NFL offensive lineman. While the future of the 49ers coaching staff and Colin Kaepernick may influence the direction of this pick, right now it is clear San Francisco needs a new leader on offense.

Previous Pick: Jared Goff, QB
. Quarterback. Memphis
