Tom Coughlin: 5 potential landing spots for former Giants head coach
By Phil Naegely
4. Jacksonville Jaguars
While the Jacksonville Jaguars have retained their head coach for the 2016, Gus Bradley’s job is far from safe once the season starts. This is especially true if Coughlin is still on the open market.
The Jags struggled this year, but were right to keep Bradley in charge. Yet, with heightened expectations a down year could guarantee Bradley’s exit.
The Jaguars have historically been a poor team recently and bringing in a Hall of Fame worthy coach like Coughlin could elevate the team to bounds never reached before by the franchise. Moreover, for Coughlin it would put a fitting bookend to his career – finishing his career with the franchise that gave him his first professional head coaching position during Jacksonville’s inaugural season.
Were things to play out this way it would give Coughlin time to decompress and not immediately jump into the next position. He could even land on one of the television networks during his coaching hiatus. He’d just have to make sure there’s a clause or addendum in the contract that allows him to leave at any time if he is offered a job by an NFL team.
