NHL Trade: Predators acquire Ryan Johansen for Seth Jones
The Nashville Predators and Columbus Blue Jackets came together to make a surprising trade
Sportsnet reports that the Nashville Predators and Columbus Blue Jackets came together and made a blockbuster trade today. Heading to the city of Nashville is forward Ryan Johansen and coming back the other direction is defenseman Seth Jones.
The Jackets dealt their 2010 fourth overall pick. At the age 23, Johansen is about to continue his career with the Predators. There has been a lot of issues this season for the Jackets. They fired their head coach Todd Richards in October and replaced him with John Tortorella. There have been rumors of a feud with the new head coach Tortorella. Things are not going right in Columbus as they are in the basement of the National Hockey League. The forward is in the middle of his fifth year in the NHL and has 193 points in 309 career games. He also has played in six playoff games for the Jackets’ organization and has six points as well.
The Nashville Predators dealt their defenseman Jones, the 2013 NHL Entry Draft fourth overall pick. In 199 regular season games, Jones had 63 points with the Predator organization. He has played in six playoff games in Tennessee and put up four points. The 21 year old had such promise in Nashville and will be a great addition to the blue line of the Jackets.
This is the first major transaction prior to the NHL Trade Deadline on February 29. There are a lot of names being discussed as we inch closer to that date. The first meeting between the Blue Jackets and Predators is scheduled for March 26th in Nashville.
There are sure to be a lot of different names changing addresses before then.
