9) C.J. Wilson

This may be a case of too little too late for the Angels, who signed Wilson the same year they went big contract hungry and grabbed Albert Pujols as well. Well, both deals haven’t really done well with the Angels as Wilson’s FIP numbers have been under 4.00 just once during his four seasons in Anaheim.

After posting an ERA+ of 134 and 150 for the Rangers in his first two seasons as a starter, Wilson has had just one season with an ERA+ above 100, with his 2012 season netting him a 111 ERA+. To say the Angels would like to rid themselves of the declining left-hander is an understatement, and there have been reports that they have been shopping him this offseason.

However, I could see the Angels holding on to the lefty until the midseason point, where we will likely see them out of the playoff running yet again. The Angels need to get younger, and to get younger they are going to have to give up on expiring players like C.J. Wilson, who could be a hot commodity for a team that will need pitching by the deadline.

Wilson isn’t the only one who the Angels will likely give up in an effort to actually field a decent team around Mike Trout. There will be another pitcher that we will get into here next that the team could be willing to dump before he heads to free agency.
