. Southwest Division. Western Conference. Houston Rockets. 6. player. 169

The Houston Rockets have underachieved significantly this season. Even after firing their head coach after a slow start, they are still just 22-22 and barely holding onto the seventh playoff spot in the Western Conference (as of January 22nd). If the Rockets don’t live up to their lofty preseason expectations this season, expect there to be some changes. Luke Walton would be a huge step in the right direction.

The Rockets have a very talented roster that their coaching staff has not been able to optimize. Walton could certainly help do that. He’s used to working with a talented roster with the Warriors and keeping everybody happy. He’s obviously learned a lot about coaching through his playing career and his brief coaching career.

If the Rockets want to win an NBA title anytime soon, they’re going to have to surpass teams like the Spurs and the Warriors. Why not hire Walton who obviously knows a lot about the Warriors and their players? Walton not only knows his players’ strengths, he also knows their weaknesses and how to stop them.

The Rockets need to prove that they are serious about contending by hiring Luke Walton to be their head coach if things don’t change in Houston quickly. Whether it happens this season or in the offseason, hiring Walton would be the right move for the Rockets.
