5. OF- Colby Rasmus

Colby Rasmus and Matt Wieters made history this off-season by becoming the first players ever to accept the one-year qualifying offer. Both will go back to their respective teams this year and make $15.8 million. Nice work if you can get it right? Both made the right calls.

For Rasmus, it was a really smart decision. If you’re a team looking for outfield help, would you rather have Rasmus or Yoenis Cespedes, who doesn’t have draft pick compensation, or Justin Upton? I think you probably put Rasmus third on that list. It’s possible that Rasmus could be sitting there without a team like Dexter Fowler if he hadn’t at this point.

Teams spent so much money on pitching this off-season, that the money on bats hasn’t been there quite yet. Rasmus next season will only have Jose Bautista, Cespedes and Carlos Gomez as competition in the outfield marketplace.

In September and October, Rasmus hit .289 with eight homers. He walked 13 times which was as many walks as he had in July and August combined. He had an OPS of 1.000.

Teams are going to have money to spend next season and if Rasmus performs as well as he did in the final two months of last season, look for him to get paid next winter.
