5. Boston Celtics

The Boston Celtics have done a great job of making pieces fit on the roster under the regime of Danny Ainge and Brad Stevens. Rudy Gay just seems like the type of guy that could fit right in Boston and guard the big forwards in the Eastern Conference.

He can shoot the ball, score points and play a little bit of defense. He’s already played with All-Star point guard Isaiah Thomas before in his career and Gay could slide right into the offense. He played his college ball in Connecticut, so coming back to the New England area could be a homecoming of sorts for him.

The Celtics have trade assets to get him and wouldn’t have to sacrifice as much to get him as they would going after a big name star. They need someone besides Thomas at the point guard spot who can put up points in the front court and Gay is exactly that player.

Boston shouldn’t rush to blow their assets on a superstar player yet. They should wait to see how the draft unfolds as there is a great chance they could land the top pick in the draft, thanks to owning the pick of the Brooklyn Nets. This is a more calculated and safe move.

In a deal like this, they could get their scorer for up front and then still hold onto most of their assets for a future. This sounds like the type of deal the Celtics would make.
