High Salary PG

Russell Westbrook-Oklahoma City Thunder (11,200): Obviously both Westbrook and Curry are great options for tonight and will probably both be productive.  You could try and stack them, but you’d be left with little to spend elsewhere. Westbrook comes into this game on fire with three straight triple doubles and a monster games of 76.25 fantasy points on Wednesday against the Magic.  He had 24 points, 19 rebounds, and 14 assists in that game.  He has produced at least 57 fantasy points in four of his last five and six of his last nine, so his 11K salary isn’t all that ridiculous.  He and Curry haven’t met this season, but last year Westbrook averaging 5.7 rebounds, 9.7 assists, and 24.0 points in their three regular season meetings. Westbrook offers the more consistent balance of the two PG, and you know he’ll be revved up to take on the reigning MVP tonight.

Stephen Curry-Golden State Warriors (10,800): On the other side of the PG showdown is Steph Curry who hasn’t been as consistently brilliant lately, but he reminded us all of how great he can be with a 51-point gem on Wednesday in Washington in the warmup for tonight’s headliner. Curry finished that game with 70.75 fantasy points and has over 55 fantasy points in six of his last nine just like Westbrook although he only has one triple-double in that span.  Curry did have an off game right before his 51-point explosion finishing with just 13 points against the Knicks last Sunday, but he can definitely bring it on any given night.  In fact, I like him just a little bit more than Westbrook tonight based on three things. First, he’s at home at ORACLE where he usually performs better than on the road. Second, the Thunder have allowed the seventh-most fantasy points to opposing PG this season while the Warriors rank in the middle of the pack, so Curry’s matchup is a little bit better. The third and final reason I like Curry a bit more than Westbrook is that I think ultimately the Warriors win this game at home which could lead to plenty of free throw shooting for Curry in the closing minutes of the game which is always a nice way to pile up late points. While I do think it’s close, I’d take the Warriors to win and Steph for my fantasy team if I could only pick one of the two options at PG.

John Wall-Washington Wizards (9,700): The contrarian’s pick of the day is John Wall who can help you get out to a fast start in your contests since he plays the early game two hours before Russ and Steph go at it.  Wall had a triple-double last night and has at least 54 fantasy points in three of his last four games including finishing with 65.25 fantasy points against the Warriors on Wednesday.  Wall is expensive and playing on back-to-back days, but if you want an option from outside the spotlight check him out for tonight.

Kyrie Irving-Cleveland Cavaliers (6,900): Irving is in my DraftKings daily picks for the second day in a row as he and the Cavs look to erase the memory of Avery Bradley’s buzzer beater.  Irving is in a pretty good matchup against the Pelicans although they’ve been playing better defense against PG lately.  Irving could have to help hoist the scoring load more than usual tonight if Kevin Love is out, but he has been rounding into form in every way but his long-distance shot.  Kyrie has at least 19 points in each of his last five games, though, and has finished with at least 30 fantasy points in each of those five games and seven of his last nine.

Derrick Rose-Chicago Bulls (6,500): Rose had a monster night in Denver last night finishing with 54.25 fantasy points on 30 points, nine rebounds, and eight assists.  He now has at least 26 fantasy points in five straight games including over 42 fantasy points in each of his last two.  Tonight, he’ll be in another good matchup as he takes on the Timberwolves in Minnesota.  The T-Wolves have allowed the third-most fantasy points in the NBA to opposing PG, and after Jimmy Butler’s setback last night Rose will probably have to carry the Bulls offense again tonight.  He’s a great play at just over 6K, and in this matchup he should be ready for his second big night in a row. ∗
