Alabama. A'Shawn Robinson. 12. player. 15.
The Saints are a defensive disaster.

That is the point that must be taken into account, even as some project New Orleans to end up taking a wide receiver with their first round selection. To be honest, there isn’t a lot to like about the Saints defense right now, leading the best course of action to be taking the best defensive player available, regardless of position. That player is Alabama defensive lineman A’Shawn Robinson.

Robinson is a physical monster at 6-foot-3 and 313 pounds, and he was the centerpiece of what was a dominant defensive line for Alabama in 2015. He is better against the run than against the pass, which is admittedly an issue given that the Saints have been utterly putrid in pass defense recently, but Robinson is certainly talented enough to rush the passer and collapse the pocket from the interior of the defensive line.

It would be pretty simple to make a reasoned argument for New Orleans to pass-rushing defensive end or a player in the secondary, but A’Shawn Robinson is a safe bet for a team that needs stability immediately. Sometimes, the obvious pick is the right pick, and Sean Payton’s team would be smart to acknowledge that this is one such instance.
. DL
