Ohio State. Taylor Decker. 18. player. 46.
A fair argument exists for the Colts drafting a defensive player with this pick, and if Ryan Grigson (who remains employed for reasons passing understanding) chooses to go in that direction, it will be a defensible move. However, Indianapolis must protect Andrew Luck in an improved fashion for 2016 and beyond, and picking an offensive lineman in this spot makes a ton of sense.

Decker, who stands at 6-foot-7 and 315 pounds, has a ton of natural talent, and it is possible that he could be the second tackle off the board after Laremy Tunsil if things break in the right way. The former Ohio State standout easily could have been a first round pick (or at least a second-round selection) if he entered the draft a year earlier, and all he did was light the Big Ten on fire after returning to school for a final collegiate season.

The Colts allowed a comical 118 quarterback hits in 2015, ranking second-worst in the NFL in that category, and Luck’s injury issues this season weren’t a coincidence. Indianapolis has many, many issues to address for a team that is a) old, and b) supposedly “close” to contention, but picking a potentially impactful offensive lineman would be a good idea at some point in this draft, and Decker fits that profile in the first round.
.
