5 trades the Sacramento Kings need to make
4. Acquire Kendrick Perkins for leadership
If a team wants to continue to grow with a veteran mindset and have leadership, then they need a voice in the locker room that everyone will respect and a guy that’s been around the block.
Kendrick Perkins doesn’t play much anymore, but he’s the type of expiring cheap deal that the Kings could throw a heavily protected second-round pick at and acquire from New Orleans as they look to make their stretch run.
Every year at the trade deadline, there’s minor deals like this and while they aren’t the first things on people’s minds, they make a ton of sense in the long run. Perkins has been on championship and rosters and has played with the best players in the world.
He’s always been there for his teammates and he could be someone that DeMarcus Cousins could lean on for guidance. More importantly, he won’t be a bad presence in the locker room and would bring more toughness to add to the defensive mindset that the Kings are looking for.
The Kings have talent on the roster, but one of the things keeping them from succeeding is having a great mentality. Adding influential voices can be just as important.
