5) Los Angeles Has the Potential to Be the Best Option

Kevin Durant is going to be courted by any team with cap space this summer. Outside of the Los Angeles Lakers, the New York Knicks and Washington Wizards have been the teams mostly connected with the star player in rumors.

However, LA should be the choice over New York and Washington because there is potential for this to be his best option.

The Lakers have a solid group of young talent in Julius Randle, D’Angelo Russell and Jordan Clarkson. They also could have a high pick in the 2016 NBA Draft this June — if they land in the top-three of the lottery. If the Lakers do not receive a pick in the top-three, they will lose their first-round draft choice to the Philadelphia 76ers. This stems from the Andrew Bynum-Dwight Howard trade fiasco of 2012.

If they are able to keep this pick and end up with the No. 1 choice, Ben Simmons could be the guy the Lakers choose. He is a 6′ 9” point forward who has received comparisons to Magic Johnson. Add him to the already-mentioned group of young talent, and that’s not a bad core for Durant to play with whatsoever.

The Knicks have a growing group that will be headlined in future years by Kristaps Porzingis. However, Durant going side-by-side with Carmelo Anthony doesn’t seem to be the greatest fit. Both men need the ball in their hands, so it may not work out well.

Washington has a compelling case because they have John Wall, Bradley Beal and an established group. If the Lakers cannot get Simmons in this year’s draft, going to the Wizards may be the best destination for Durant to go to.

Imagine the unselfish Simmons playing with the tremendous scorer in Durant, though. That has the potential to be a fantastic duo.
