The New England Patriots are all about bringing veteran running backs into the mix and getting the most out of them. Just ask Corey Dillon, who came over after a stellar career with the Cincinnati Bengals and helped the Patriots win a pair of Super Bowls before retiring. This year, it was Steven Jackson who was rescued off the scrap heap.

Forte would be a nice fit on New England for a few reasons. For starters, Tom Brady and Co. are not going to ask him to carry the ball 300 times before catching another 80 passes. His workload would be significantly decreased while keeping him fresh for the inevitable postseason run. The second reason is his ability to catch passes out of the backfield. New England loves to throw to its backs, and there is not a more polished receiver in that capacity that Forte.

The Patriots are also fairly strapped for cash, and Forte likely isn’t going to cost more than $3 million per year, making him a nice financial play. New England would improve its team and Forte would have the best chance of his career to play in a Super Bowl for the first time.
