3. Carmelo’s Hunger

In a recent interview on Sirius XM NBA radio, Carmelo Anthony reiterated his desire to stay in New York City and claim the elusive championship that has evaded him throughout his 13-year career. While in Toronto for the NBA All-Star game Anthony told reporters,”I want to win a championship. At this point in my career, that’s the only thing that I really care about,”. The star forward went on to reinforce his unwillingness to even entertain trade talks,”But I’m not, I mean, there’s nothing out there for me right now. … I’m not even entertaining no trade talk right now.”

Most notably, Carmelo stated his dream of sharing the floor with another star player,

"I think everybody kind of dreams and hopes that they can play with another great player, another star player. It’s a star player’s league, I think that’s what we talk about when we all get together — ‘I want to play with you, I want to play with you.’ Even here, different guys say, ‘Come play with me, come play with me.’ So that’s always the mindset. Sometimes it happens, sometimes it don’t."

This should be the perfect incentive for Kevin Durant to make the switch from Chesapeake Energy Arena to Madison Square Garden. Carmelo is nearing the end of his prime, the lack of playoff basketball in the later years of his career certainly must be weighing on his mind.

At this point in his time in the league Anthony is a desperate superstar, and that could make him all the more dangerous on the court. Few players in the NBA will be striving to attain greatness like Anthony. For over a decade Anthony has been the main man on his squads, but now he will be willing to make the sacrifices and concessions needed to attain the highest team success.

If Durant signed with the Knicks this summer, he would find a willing running mate in the form of Anthony.
