Eddie Lacy has had noticeable issues keeping hit weight down, and is turning to the P90x founder for help.

Eddie Lacy had a monster rookie season, showing his hunger for success on the field right away rushing for nearly 1,200 yards in his first year, good enough to get him selected for a Pro Bowl. He averaged nearly 80 yards per game. His sophomore season was nearly just as good, as he finished the year with about 1,100 yards rushing and over 70 yards rushing per game. This most recent season,  however, which was Lacy’s third, was not as ideal for the Green Bay Packers running back.

Lacy had noticeable issues all season keeping his weight down, and he often looked like he was eating much too many sweets with his gut popping out from the bottom of his jersey. He finished the season with under 800 yards and just 50 yards per game, a huge falloff from his first two seasons in the NFL. The Packers have not been quiet about Lacy’s weight, and have said that they are confident Lacy will put in the effort to get back to a healthy and more normal weight by the time next season comes around. They believe he knows he has to get something done.

Recent actions from Lacy show he knows he has to do something as well.

According to an ESPN report, head coach Mike McCarthy — who has fired the running back coach since the Packers were eliminated this season — recently confirmed with media that Lacy has teamed up with P90x founder Tony Horton in hopes that Horton can help him get back in shape.

P90x is a popular workout DVD series that allows people to lose weight and gain muscle from home. It has been very successful and has been endorsed by lots of big celebrity names, especially since it allowed a lot of those celebrities who have on-the-road lifestyles to train from their tour buses, hotel rooms, and wherever they could find a DVD player.

When asked about how overweight Lacy was, McCarthy declined to comment, and said that recent reports about Lacy being 30 pounds overweight were untrue.

We can tell from pictures, Lacy definitely has some work to do. But if anybody knows fitness and losing weight quickly, it’s Tony Horton. It’s definitely interesting that the resources the NFL and Packers have weren’t enough to help Lacy, though.
