Roddy White has played a lot of games against the Philadelphia Eagles during his 11 years with the Atlanta Falcons. Now that he is a free agent following his release by Atlanta, White could provide new Eagles head coach Doug Pederson with a reliable pass catcher and great receiving mind to help turnaround the sputtering offense of the Eagles post-Chip Kelly.

Pederson worked under Any Reid last season while with the Kansas City Chiefs. Given that Reid’s teams run an ultra-conservative offense that rarely stretches the field, it would make since that Pederson would enact some of those philosophical principles in his new offense centered around recently extended quarterback Sam Bradford.

Bradford, when he’s healthy, has shown that he is an accurate passer with good touch on the football in the short-to-medium passing game, perfect for targeting White as a slot/tight end hybrid at this stage of his NFL career.

Another advantage that White would have in going to the Eagles would be that he would probably have a better opportunity to make the NFC Playoffs than he did with the Falcons. Not that Philadelphia is a good team by any means, but the NFC East is consistently an underwhelming division, where the Carolina Panthers seem to have a vise-like grip on the NFC South.

White at times has a sharp tongue as a preeminent trash talker. He’s always good for a great quote or two per press conference, so the angry Philadelphia media would certainly eat that up. The Eagles aren’t a great team, but they could have a need for a veteran leader like White under new head coach Pederson in 2016.
