NFL Rumors: 5 teams that should sign Roddy White
By John Buhler
With the Cleveland Browns almost certainly going with yet another franchise quarterback at No. 2 in the 2016 NFL Draft, would it make too much sense for the Browns to bring in a pro’s pro at wide receiver to help the young NFL passer build confidence as he tries to turn around the least successful franchise in the NFL the last 15 years?
Hue Jackson is a great offensive mind, being the former offensive coordinator of the Cincinnati Bengals the last two seasons before agreeing to move north and become the next head coach of the Browns in 2016. Jackson’s work with wideouts like A.J. Green and Mohamed Sanu might have Roddy White’s interest in possibly going to Cleveland to help groom a new quarterback.
White did great work helping Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan become a three-time Pro Bowl in their eight years together. Perhaps he’s willing to assume a different leadership role with a long struggling AFC franchise in Cleveland?
The Browns had a strong offensive line, but may lose players like Alex Mack and Mitchell Schwartz to free agency. Cleveland could also end up losing up-and-coming wide receiver star Travis Benjamin this offseason, too.
Cleveland isn’t a sexy destination for free agents, especially for a guy that has played 11 years in the south for a dome team. However, the Browns will likely have a need for a veteran wide receiver and White could help bring stability to an organization that has everything but that in 2016 should he sign with the Browns in free agency this summer.
