Brooklyn Nets

The Nets are looking for a star to turn the franchise into a contender in their new home, and DeRozan could be that player. This is will be the first season since the Nets moved to Brooklyn in 2012 that they will miss the playoffs, and the key difference on this team is that it lacks a big name star, a role that DeRozan would fill nicely.

At just 26 years old, and already with six years of NBA experience, DeRozan is just entering the prime of his career, and bringing a championship to New York would make him a mega star. A status that he would probably never reach if he stayed north of the border.

Imagine the intense rivalry that could be created for years to come in the Atlantic Division if DeRozan were to don a Nets jersey. Vince Carter being traded from the Raptors to New Jersey in 2004, first-round playoff wins for the Nets in 2007, and over a DeRozan led Toronto squad in game seven of the 2014 postseason, the foundations of a great rivalry is there.

Having a second Raptors’ franchise player leave Toronto for the Nets could easily vault Raptors/Nets to modern classic in terms of rivalry status.
