NFL Rumors: 5 free agent destinations for Robert Griffin III
By Josh Hill
Why It Makes Sense: Things are rough in Houston and that has everything to do with the fact that a sack of potatoes is a better option at quarterback than anyone they’ve had in 2015. You can’t disagree with that either, because a sack of potatoes threw less interceptions than Brian Hoyer did in the AFC Wild Card Game.
RGIII isn’t an instant fix for the Texans, but he gives them more hope than they’ve had with Hoyer, Weeden, Yates, Fitzpatrick and everyone else who has come through. The key is staying healthy, and while everyone talks about RGIII’s return to Texas being in Dallas, there’s no reason he can’t rebuild himself in Houston behind Brock Osweiler — who is bound to be benched at some point this year.
Why It Might Not Happen: The injury thing is huge, but so is the unproven nature of RGIII’s career. It’s easy to say that the guy who led Washington to the playoffs in 2012 could help the Texans, but we might not ever see that guy again — an we certainly haven’t in the last few years.
The problem in Houston has been that they haven’t been able to find a reliable option at quarterback and RGIII is anything but that at this time. He’s a high risk, high reward signing and the Texans might want to just draft a guy and mold him than push their chips in on another potential bust.
