NFL Rumors: 5 free agent destinations for Victor Cruz
By Jason Parker
The sudden retirement of superstar receiver Calvin Johnson left a gaping hole in the Lions’ offense that, quite frankly, won’t be filled by one player. Still, giving Matthew Stafford something of a deep downfield target against would keep the wheels from completely falling off the wagon in the Motor City. The only issue is that he would likely have to be the number one target for the Lions…something that he wouldn’t have to worry about with the first three teams mentioned. Coming off a season and a half of injuries, one has to wonder if Victor Cruz could be a number one receiver at this point.
We haven’t quite seen yet what the new leadership in the Motor City intends to do to replace their best athlete. Golden Tate, at the moment, is probably the best receiver on the current roster with 5’9″ Lance Moore trying to play the role of a Wes Welker and be a possession receiver.
If the Lions don’t intend to go out and make a splash either in the draft or free agency, signing Cruz might just be enough to put a temporary bandage on the problem until a more serious solution is found for the team.
