Matt LeBlanc making noise, and smoke, on new Top Gear
Former Friends star, and current co-host of the BBC’s ‘new’ Top Gear car show, apparently needs to learn a bit more about London landmarks.
According to sources across the pond, Leblanc and another driver were filmed doing doughnuts near the 96-year old National War Monument in a London borough. The local Westminster City Council had issued permits and permission for the show to film the car driving down Whitehall Street near the monument. They had not approved “wheel spins and a ‘doughnut’ and permission would not have been given to do so.”
The show’s lead host, Chris Evans, released a statement saying that he and everyone involved with the show were “mortified,” and that though he doesn’t have final say, he expects the producers to put the footage in a drawer and not air it publicly.
The Westminster Council said that it welcomed Evans’ quick response to the incident, and accepted his apology.
Evans is the lead host of the re-engineered Top Gear franchise, along with LeBlanc, racing driver Sabine Schmitz, YouTube star Chris Harris, former F1 team owner and current pundit Eddie Jordan and motoring journalist Rory Reid. It is currently filming new episodes, obviously, and will hit the airwaves across the pond in May.
The original Top Gear hosts Jeremy Clarkson, James May, and Richard Hammond are currently filming a new car show for Amazon, expected to hit the streaming service this fall. The three left Top Gear a year ago after Clarkson was fired over an altercation he had with one of the show’s producers.
