5. Cleveland Browns

Perhaps the most logical choice is the one Kaepernick asked about himself. He stated at one point this offseason he wished to be a part of the Cleveland Browns. Perhaps this is because he felt they didn’t have anyone to compete with him for the starting spot. Or maybe he’s a big fan of the way their new head coach Hue Jackson works with quarterbacks.

Whatever the reason, the Nevada product seemed like he would not only be an upgrade for Cleveland, but that he would also allow them to use their second overall pick on a playmaker to go with Kaepernick.

Such a move only makes sense if the Browns are interested and if they feel like the 49ers would be trading a player who is significantly better than anyone they can draft with their second overall pick. With the Browns current history of first round quarterbacks flopping, you would think they could be swayed to take someone who has thrown more than 10,000 yards in the NFL rather than an untested rookie.

Unfortunately for Kaepernick, it looks like Cleveland isn’t all that interested. The team says they aren’t actively pursuing him, and while that can be a smokescreen, they did also recently visit with former Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III.

This move may not be entirely dead, but it’s close.
