A look at the top five fits for quarterback Colin Kaepernick who made it clear he wants out of San Francisco

The strange twists and turns of the San Francisco 49ers have continued yet again this offseason. It seems like only yesterday they had the quirky Jim Harbaugh on the sidelines as their head coach and were a feared team.

Harbaugh got the most out of quarterback Alex Smith as they wound up just short of a Super Bowl. Then he replaced Smith with the young, and gifted Colin Kaepernick. The second-year pro took the team that next step to the big game.

Although they lost that contest, it seemed as though there was no way to go except up. Then ego may have gotten in the way as the team struggled to an 8-8 season as rumors of the coach’s exit buzzed all year. Harbaugh and general manager Trent Baalke couldn’t get along and the coach left when his contract was over and is now with the University of Michigan Wolverines.

After a terrible 2015 where new head coach Jim Tomsula orchestrated a 5-11 record, the team is back in rebuilding mode and that same young quarterback says he no longer wants to be a part of the 49ers plans as they try and move forward with yet another new coach.

Chip Kelly replaces Tomsula and while many assumed Kaepernick could flourish in his system, the dual-threat passer isn’t sold. So where could Kaepernick end up in 2016?

We take a look at five possible destinations for the once highly regarded player.
