Ranking starting quarterbacks for each NFL team
8. Philip Rivers, San Diego Chargers
Despite a catastrophic amount of injuries and limited talent around him, Rivers put up an excellent 2015 campaign. The only question for the Chargers is how much Rivers has left in the tank as he hits mid-30s.
Rivers nearly topped the 4,800 yard mark with 29 touchdowns to just 13 interceptions in 661 pass attempts. It was the best season of Rivers’ storied career by total passing yards, as he made the most of a limited group of wide receivers and poor offensive line.
Head coach Mike McCoy’s offense has worked well for Rivers, as he has been able to use his accuracy and quick decision-making to be lethal on short passes.
Due to San Diego’s terrible 4-12 season, Rivers’ season was overlooked as one of the best overall by a quarterback in 2015. Rivers is used to being underrated, as he doesn’t nearly get as much national recognition as he deserves for an outstanding career that includes over 41,000 passing yards and 281 touchdowns.
There may only be a couple of seasons left for Rivers at 34 years old, but he shouldn’t suffer a sharp decline just yet. If the Chargers can avoid so many injuries and add a little more talent around him, Rivers will comfortably remain a top 10 starter in 2016 and hopefully get one more crack at the postseason.
Next: 7. Carson Palmer, Arizona Cardinals
