Detroit Lions mock draft: Complete 7-round edition
The Lions have flat-out had little to no success on the offensive line in recent years. Following the retirement of Jeff Backus and departure of Dominic Raiola, the Lions have drafted guys like Laken Tomlinson, Riley Reiff and Larry Warford to strengthen the group over the past few years, but there’s still an absence of elite talent.
Adding someone like Germain Ifedi would be perfect for this group. Although it might seem like a stretch having him drop all the way to the second round selection for the Lions, it’s entirely possible and if he is there, I don’t think Detroit would have a choice but to pick him.
Starting three years with Texas A&M, Ifedi started his career as a guard before moving over to right tackle where he played two years and earned second-team All-SEC honors in 2015.
At 6-foot-6, 324 pounds, Ifedi would be the ideal size for an NFL right tackle and would help the Lions figure out the mess that is their offensive line. If he can be plugged into either guard positions or right tackle, that would allow them to switch some guys around to where they’re more comfortable.
With a young line consisting of Tomlinson, Reiff, Warford and Ifedi, the Lions could watch this group gel into something special in a couple of years.
