Jacksonville Jaguars: 5 best draft picks all-time
By John Buhler
The Jaguars have been bad for a while now. However, that means ample opportunity to make some very strong draft picks. Perhaps the best pick that Jacksonville has made under general manager David Caldwell’s direction is taking wide receiver Allen Robinson at No. 61 in the 2014 NFL Draft.
At Penn State, Robinson was a consensus All-American playing for then-head coach Bill O’Brien (who now coaches the Jaguars’ AFC South rival Houston Texans). Though Jacksonville used an earlier pick on a wide receiver in the same draft, taking USC Trojans’ Marqise Lee, choosing Robinson in the second round gives Jacksonville hope at having one of the best passing attacks in the NFL entering 2016.
As a second-year player in Jacksonville, Robinson and starting quarterback Blake Bortles had great chemistry. In 2015, Robinson had 80 catches for 1,400 yards and 14 touchdown receptions, making it to his first ever Pro Bowl. Robinson was the first Jaguars wideout since Jimmy Smith to have a 1,000 yard receiving season.
From a former second round pick out of Penn State to arguably a top 10 receiver in the game, Robinson has made monstrous efforts to help turn around this once dormant Jaguars passing game. Should he and Bortles continue to feed off each other, expect Jacksonville to again put up fantastic numbers through the air for the next several seasons.
