5. Will have Kevin Garnett’s ringing endorsement.

It seems that future Hall of Famer and the greatest player to ever play for the Timberwolves in Kevin Garnett is part of the franchise’s long-term plans, as a player/coach for probably one more season before assuming another role within the organization when he calls it a career.

Garnett was arguably the most tenacious competitor of any player of his generation and is key in helping these young ‘Wolves players learn how to win together. In his prime, he was the best defensive player in the game. His defensive assistant coach while with the Boston Celtics, none other than Thibodeau.

Thibodeau was the architect of the pace-and-space era defensively, using Garnett as the prototype for the stretch four/stretch five position. Garnett was a seven footer that could play all three front court positions at a Hall of Fame level on both ends of the floor.

If Garnett does move to either the bench as an assistant coach or go into the front office with the Timberwolves organization, there is absolutely no doubt that Thibodeau would have his ringing endorsement. Together in Boston as a part of Doc Rivers’ staff, Garnett and Thibodeau forever changed the game defensively. That should be in play again in the Twin Cities should Thibodeau become the next head coach of the Timberwolves.
