Wait, the Rams!?

Yes, the Rams.

The entire NFL world stood in shock as the announcement came down that Los Angeles had moved heaven and earth to acquire the top overall pick. To put it mildly, the Rams overpaid for the right to take any player they want in the 2016 draft, and when teams send that much ammunition away in a draft trade, it is almost always to take a quarterback.

Obviously, we don’t know that L.A. is taking a quarterback and we definitely don’t know which one. However, speculation is firing that Carson Wentz could be the guy, and he happens to also be the top quarterback on Todd McShay’s big board, as well as in my personal rankings.

Welcome to Los Angeles, Carson.

Wentz isn’t the type of generational prospect that would command this type of trade in a vacuum, but Los Angeles is obviously searching for the “splash” of a big-time quarterback as they move into their new market. For me, Wentz is a very, very nice prospect that has big-time upside given his athleticism and overall profile, but there is a great deal of uncertainty and this is a massive risk.

It isn’t our job to evaluate the pros and cons of a trade in this space, but if the Rams don’t take a quarterback at this point, they would shock the entire football universe.
. QB. North Dakota State. Carson Wentz. 1. player. 51
