4. Talent Development

The success of the Los Angeles Lakers in the coming years will firmly rely on the progress and development of the young players currently on the roster and future draft picks. With Kobe gone, the team now belongs to the youthful talents of D’Angelo Russell (20 years old), Julius Randle (21), Larry Nance Jr. (23), and Jordan Clarkson (23).

Additionally, by finishing 29th in the league last season, the Lakers will also have a high Draft Lottery selection that could turn into LSU’s Ben Simmons or Duke’s Brandon Ingram.

In these circumstances, the Lakers need someone who can develop raw players and help them to reach their full potential. Bryon Scott, who allowed Kobe’s farewell tour to hijack the entire season and stunt the growth of his young players, has proven to be the absolute wrong guy for the job.

Scott Brooks, on the other hand, oversaw the emergence of three of the league’s top-10 players in Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, and James Harden. While the natural talent of these players is obviously overwhelming, Brooks accelerated the learning process by allowing them to fail on the court and play through their mistakes.
