5. Antone Davis

With the eighth pick in the 1991 NFL Draft, the Eagles drafted offensive tackle Antone Davis. He was expected to help guard the quarterback throughout the 1990s, but that didn’t happen. The right tackle was on a few of the Eagles squads that ended up making the playoffs.

Yet, 25 years after he was drafted, not many Eagles fans remember him. It’s hard to be remembered, especially as a lineman, but his play with the Eagles was disappointing, and the rest of his career didn’t get much better before he left the league in his early 30s.

To make matters worse, the Eagles could have selected Brett Favre instead of Davis. While the Eagles did eventually make it to four straight NFC championship games and a Super Bowl in the early 2000s, that success would likely have come much sooner if they had Favre on their side. By any measure, Favre had a much better career than Davis.

Top ten picks usually end up doing well for NFL teams, but unfortunately for the Eagles, Davis did not. He played five seasons in Philadelphia before moving to the Atlanta Falcons, where he would play his last ever NFL game in 1997.
