Joey Bosa, Defensive End — Chargers, Pick No. 3

Much like with Karl Joseph and the Oakland Raiders, I don’t have much of a problem in regards to player or fit when it comes to former Ohio State defensive end Joey Bosa going to the San Diego Chargers with the No. 3 overall pick. The Chargers are really in a position where they could use virtually any help they could get on the defensive side of the ball and Bosa is a player that showed in college that he at least has the potential to be an impact player on the edge.

And there are likely some people that have a problem with the fit with Bosa in San Diego given the Chargers playing a 3-4 on defense and that sort of putting the incoming rookie’s role up in the air from the start. However, Bosa has the versatility, savvy, and skill as a player to adjust to whatever role his new team decides to put him in.

However, the draft is all about maximizing your assets and taking Bosa with the third-overall pick doesn’t feel like the Chargers were doing that. Though trading back in the NFL Draft is always easier said than done, there had to be someone wanting to move up to take a Jalen Ramsey or Ezekiel Elliott ahead of the Cowboys and Jaguars that would’ve been willing to deal. Instead, San Diego made a slight reach with a highly valuable pick and that’s something I’m just not a fan of in the draft.
