1. J.A. Happ-Toronto Blue Jays (37.0%)
Toronto hasn’t gotten off to a great start to the season, but J.A. Happ has been one of their biggest surprises and has turned in a quality start in each of his four starts this year. Tonight, he’ll look to continue his strong start as he takes on the Rays in Tampa.
Happ is 3-0 with three straight wins and has only allowed seven runs in his 26 innings for a very solid 2.42 ERA. He hasn’t been piling up strikeouts (just 13), but his 1.19 WHIP shows how effective he has been at limiting baserunners. Happ allowed three runs in seven innings against the A’s in his last start but only needed 92 pitches to get through those 21 outs.
Today, he faces the Rays for the second time this season. When he faced them in his first start of the season he allowed two runs in six innings earning a no-decision in a game the Rays eventually won. Happ doesn’t have the strikeout potential of Gausman or Eickhoff, but he has been pitching so well lately that he’s a good pickup if you need innings and a good shot at a win tonight as he takes the mound at The Trop.
