2. Jerad Eickhoff-Philadelphia Phillies (30.5%)

Eickhoff burned me and anyone else who tried to stream him on Sunday by giving up five runs in the sixth to Milwaukee.  He entered the frame with the lead, but in the end he gave up seven runs on nine hits in just 5.1 innings although he did give teams a boost with his seven strikeouts.

Eickhoff has posted more than a strikeout per inning over his last three outings and has 28 in his 24.1 innings this season.  He enters today’s start against the Indians with a 1-3 record and a 4.07 ERA which is a little inflated compared to his 1.15 WHIP and solid .242 batting average against.  Eickhoff doesn’t have a  great lineup behind him so his record may continue to be an issue even if he does get back to turning in quality starts.

If you need a win more than strikeouts, I’d give Derek Holland a look, but if you’re after good innings and strikeouts, I think Eickhoff is worth the little extra risk as he faced the Indians in Phily tonight. In his two home starts this season Eickhoff has allowed just two runs total in 14 innings while picking up 18 strikeouts. I think he’ll quickly erase the memories of last Sunday’s burn with a strong outing tonight at Citizens Bank Park.
