AFC West

Denver Broncos: B

Denver got its quarterback, but is that a good thing? Paxton Lynch projected as a second-round pick on my board, although Jerry Jones has openly talked about wishing he had acquired Lynch. This is a project, so time will tell. The Broncos got nice value in both running back Devontae Booker and guard Connor McGovern as well. Punter Riley Dixon will also compete for a job.

Kansas City Chiefs: B

Nobody jumps out from this class, but it is solid. Chris Jones is a tremendous athlete who needs his motor turned on. Can Andy Reid get that out of him? KeiVarae Russell is an underrated corner who plays press and fits Kansas City’s scheme beautifully. Russell will compete for a starting job along with Eric Murray and D.J. White, the two other corners taken by the Chiefs.

Oakland Raiders: B-

The Raiders took some chances in this draft. Karl Joseph is a nice player but one with an injury history. The same could be said for defensive end and second-round pick Jihad Ward. Shilique Calhoun is another defensive end who might have been a steal in the third. Also, nice move by general manager Reggie McKenzie to land Connor Cook as a backup to Derek Carr in the fourth round.

San Diego Chargers: C

There are some real questions about this group. Defensive end Joey Bosa is a talent worth the third-overall pick, but he’s a 4-3 defensive end in a 3-4 system. San Diego will put him in good situations, but it remains an odd fit. Hunter Henry is a very nice pick, but center Max Tuerk is tall for that spot. Joshua Perry could be a nice player, but he likely starts on special teams.
