1. Tanner Roark-Washington Nationals (48.1%)
Roark is a great pickup tonight as he and the Nats open their series on the road with the World Champion Royals. It’s not as bad a matchup as it initially seems and may work in his favor since he’s matched up agains the struggling Chris Young who comes into tonight’s start with a 6.12 ERA to go with his 1-4 record.
Roark, on the other hand, comes into tonight’s start just 2-2 but with an impressive 2.03 ERA to go with his 1.19 WHIP. He had 30 K’s in his 31 innings and has allowed zero runs in three of his last four starts. He struck out 15 Twins just two starts ago allowing only two hits in seven scoreless innings. I didn’t expect him to repeat the performance, but he only allowed two hits in seven scoreless innings (while striking out six) his last time out against the Phillies as well.
While I’m not sure Roark is ready to move into the “must-own” category yet, his strong start is a good reason to grab him for tonight’s outing in which he should be able to get a win with a strong outing. The Nationals are looking very strong in the early going under Dusty Baker (17-7) and Roark is a big part of their successful rotation so far.
