76. . National League. Central. Milwaukee Brewers. 5. player

Why would the Angels trade one of baseball’s brightest stars in one of the country’s three biggest media markets to a perennial loser in easily the smallest market of any major league team? That’s because the Milwaukee Brewers have quietly built themselves one of the top six farm systems in baseball.

Milwaukee probably needs a new look as the Brewers still deal with the aftermath of the Ryan Braun PED suspension from a few years back. Although the Brewers find themselves in last place in the National League Central at 11-17, there is a solid chance that by 2018 Milwaukee will challenge the Chicago Cubs for supremacy in the Central.

Milwaukee has the best farm system of any of the five teams in the National League Central. The Brewers have five players on MLB.com’s Top 100 prospects: shortstop Orlando Arcia (No. 4), outfielder Brett Phillips (No. 8), right-handed pitcher Jorge Lopes (No. 53), left-handed pitcher Josh Hader (No. 57), and outfielder Trent Clark (No. 57).

The Brewers clearly would have to part with two, probably three of their top prospects including Arcia, but if the Angels are that desperate to get prospects that will make the transition to the big leagues in the next 18 months, it’s hard to top what the Brewers have to offer. They could be in the Trout sweepstakes on farm system talent alone.
