Sharks forward Chris Tierney scored off a deflection to open up the scoring in a crucial Game 6.

Entering Game 6 against the Nashville Predators, the San Jose Sharks knew that they had to sharpen their teeth and end the series due to the success of Predators’ head coach Peter Laviolette in game sevens. Thanks to some early pressure, they were able to get an early lead courtesy of Chris Tierney, who deflected a shot from Marc-Edouard Vlasic past Predators goaltender Pekka Rinne.

The goal was reviewed briefly to make sure that Tierney deflected the shot below the crossbar, which he did. That’s a great goal from Tierney. Goes to the crease where you have to go to score goals in the playoffs. An excellent shot by Vlasic as well and Tierney showed some great hand-eye coordination in tipping that bomb.

It’s his third point and second goal of the 2015-16 playoffs. The 21-year-old forward has done a great job anchoring the Sharks’ bottom six forwards. He has been a staple of their third and fourth lines over the past two seasons and it’s great seeing a guy like him have success.

Tierney has a bright future ahead of him. Not the most skilled player, but he has an excellent hockey IQ and you can’t teach his willingness to go to the net.
