Jimmy Rollins has been the everyday shortstop for the White Sox this season. Rollins brings strong defense and fantastic veteran leadership to the mix, but he has not been able to hold his own with the bat. There is some appeal to having Rollins in the line-up, but there is certainly room for improvement there.

The Texas Rangers made a late free agency signing of Ian Desmond this off season, moving him to the outfield after playing the rest of his career at the shortstop position. Desmond has been decent for the Rangers, but with Joey Gallo and Shin-Soo Choo expected to return soon, the Rangers could easily look to move him.

The White Sox will be in the market for an outfielder at the trade deadline, and adding one who could potentially be more productive at shortstop would be ideal. I envision Desmond taking two or three starts a week from Rollins to help keep him fresh, while picking up a start or two in the outfield.

Desmond would bring offensive upside and defensive versatility to the White Sox, making him a potentially valuable acquisition.
