No. 5 – Having a great pick would mean the team actually has to hire a head coach

Since Jeff Van Gundy left the sidelines at Madison Square Garden following the 2000-01 season, the Knicks have had their share of head coaches leading the team…as well as the share of head coaches for much of the Eastern Conference. Nine different men have been in charge of the Knicks in the last 15 seasons, which is beyond laughable.

The Derek Fisher experiment lasted just over a season and a half, as he was fired with less than 30 games to go in the 2015-16 season. Kurt Rambis was the man in charge the rest of the way and has been mentioned as a permanent head coach…along with David Blatt, Frank Vogel and seemingly anyone else that team president Phil Jackson can reach on the phone.

If the Knicks were the have the most high-profile pick in the entire draft, they would almost be forced to make a decision about who is the head man before the team makes their pick in June. It might be tough for Jackson to be trusted with that move (see the Fisher years), but it would have to be done.
