Re-drafting the 2015 NBA Draft
By John Buhler
One of the biggest reasons that many feel that the Minnesota Timberwolves are about to become a Western Conference juggernaut in the next few years largely stems on the player Minnesota selected No. 1 overall in the 2015 NBA Draft: center Karl-Anthony Towns out of the University of Kentucky.
While Towns’ selection wasn’t a consensus at the time of the 2015 NBA Draft, it’s safe to say that he is the runaway favorite to win 2015-16 NBA’s Rookie of the Year. Towns averaged 18.3 points per game, 10.4 rebounds per game, 2.0 assists per game, and 1.7 blocks per game as a 20-year-old rookie for the Timberwolves in 2015-16.
He won Western Conference Rookie of the Month each month of the regular season. Towns will make first team All-Rookie and could potentially garner some votes for the All-NBA Third Team at the center position.
With Andrew Wiggins, Zach LaVine, Ricky Rubio, and new head coach Tom Thibodeau, the Timberwolves are already knocking on the door of greatness entering the 2016-17 NBA season. Towns is the best pro prospect to enter the NBA Draft since the then New Orleans Hornets took fellow Kentucky Wildcat Anthony Davis No. 1 overall in the 2012 NBA Draft. Minnesota would take Towns 100 times out of 100 with the first pick in the 2015 NBA Draft.
