NHL Playoffs: Blues vs. Sharks Game 3 full highlights, final score and more
The San Jose Sharks feasted on the visiting St. Louis Blues as they shut them out for a second straight game 3-0.
The San Jose Sharks came out extremely aggressive in Game 3 and were rewarded for their efforts with a 3-0 victory to grab a 2-1 series lead over the St. Louis Blues. San Jose only needed 14 shots to score their three goals and chase St. Louis goaltender Brian Elliott from the game. However, at the end of the day, they still scored three goals against a very good team in the Blues.
San Jose got two goals from forward Tomas Hertl (one in the first period and one in the third period) and one goal from Joonas Donskoi. They might not have generated as much pressure as they would have desired, especially in terms of shots on goal, but they have to be very pleased with their defensive effort. The Blues seemed overmatched and never got anything going on offense.
Elliott had a very rare bad game in the postseason as he has been stellar for them in the playoffs. Elliott was replaced by his backup Jake Allen after Hertl’s third period goal. Credit Sharks goaltender Martin Jones for his second consecutive shutout despite having to face over 20 shots on goal. This is his third shutout of the playoffs. The Sharks paid a lot to get Jones so it’s great to see him doing well for them.
Three stars
Tomas Hertl scored two goals. He got the scoring started in the first period, firing a rocket past the outstretched glove of Elliott. Hertl also iced the game with a third period goal that made Elliott look silly. He’s been very dominant for them this postseason.
Martin Jones held off all of St. Louis’ scoring chances for the second consecutive game. It wasn’t as easy as it looked, either. He had to save some very tough shots. Jones now has three shutouts in his last four games.
Joonas Donskoi scored a second period goal and was an offensive threat all game long. He is tied with Hertl in playoff points with eight.
