Here’s how you can bet on the 2016 Preakness Stakes online.

The 2016 Preakness Stakes will be taking place on Saturday, May 21. It is a tradition for people to bet on the Preakness in hopes of winning money.

Some people bet for the sole purpose of saying that they bet on the Triple Crown winner, which is something that a number of people did last year with American Pharoah. People typically vote on whoever wins the Kentucky Derby if they want to do that.

It looks like the Preakness field will be a very close one. The favorite is Nyquist, the undefeated horse whose owner (Paul Reddam) is a huge fan of the Detroit Red Wings. Nyquist is named after current Red Wings forward Gustav Nyquist. Reddam has previously named his horse after other Red Wings players, including Pavel Datsyuk and Nicklas Lidstrom.

Nyquist is the 3-5 odds-on favorite to win the Preakness.

Exaggerator, at post five, is another smart bet. The forecast for Saturday appears to be rain. With the track conditions not ideal, it’s anyone’s race. However, Exaggerator has had success in the rain before and has actually been quite dominant in the rain leading up to the Kentucky Derby. If the track conditions are poor, that clearly favors Exaggerator.

The easiest way to bet on the Preakness online is at the official website. You can place bets on the official Preakness website by clicking here. If you are unfamiliar with the various bets, you can click here for a nice description of the bets.
