James Hinchcliffe was the last driver on the track and captured the pole for the 2016 Indianapolis 500.

A year after a devastating injury robbed him of competing in the 2015 Indianapolis 500, James Hinchcliffe will be starting from the front at the 2016 Indianapolis 500, as Hinchcliffe won the pole position for the storied race on Sunday.

Late in qualifying, it looked like Josef Newgarden would take the pole for the day and that nobody would be able to match his speed. With Hinchcliffe going last, it was all on him to create his moment and make history.

He ended up creating one of the best stories in the history of racing, as he picked up the first pole of his career.

Now, Hinchcliffe and his team will have a chance to make even more history and work toward winning the big race next Sunday.

For a team that has had to endure so much and work to get back on the track, this is one of those moments in every race that people can and should be proud of.

The pole position is the spot everyone wants to be in for the race and now it belongs to Hinchcliffe.
