23. Boston Celtics

Spain. Juan Hernangomez . 23. player. 18. If the Celtics keep all of their first round picks this would be their third and final one, having selected Dragan Bender and Domantas Sabonis with their earlier picks in this mock. It’s not likely that they keep all three picks but if they do, logic says that one of those will likely be a draft-and-stash guy and Juan “Juancho” Hernangomez fits the bill.
He’s a 6-9 power forward who can also ease into the small forward role when needed. He’s been playing in the ACB in Spain — one of the best leagues in the world — and he’s already a productive player as a 20-year old. While the physical tools are there Hernangomez isn’t likely to come over this season, so this pick is to secure a future asset in Boston for Brad Stevens. Hernangomez projects as a bit of a tweener in the NBA but he’s played center for his team in Spain so he’s versed in the post and he is also a solid pick-and-pop option. His decision making with the ball in his hands needs some work as he’s flustered by heavy pressure, sometimes leading to errant passes.

Again, Hernangomez isn’t likely to come to the NBA this season so if Boston is attempting to get an immediate impact player here, then they likely pass on Hernangomez.

To read more about Juan Hernangomez <a href=.
