Watch Tony Hawk skateboard in a simulated zero gravity environment, and come to know what pure joy is.

Tony Hawks is one of the most well-known and successful skateboarders in the history of the sport. He has broken new ground with his moves, his video games, and his production company. Now he’s taking all that creative and innovative energy to an entirely new environment — zero gravity.

The video below, produced by Sony shows Hawk and Aaron Homoki attempting tricks in a variety of simulated gravity environments. The filming is located inside the body of a plane which, through the path and speed of it’s flight creates the varied gravitational effects.

NASA’s budget has been in a steady decline since peaking with the race to the Moon in the late 1960s. One of the reasons is that a good chunk of the country, and their elected representatives, simply don’t see the benefits of the enormous sums of money spent on space exploration.

Perhaps a new mission for NASA, one that we can all get behind — like sending Tony Hawk and a half-pipe ramp to Mars — is just the thing to get out nation excited about space once again. As far as I’m concerned, science needs Tony Hawk.
