28. player. 66. Cheick Diallo is one of the main players who benefitted from the NCAA extending the date for which players have to officially declare for the NBA draft or return to the college ranks. After a less-than-stellar season with the Kansas Jayhawks, the undersized center decided to test the waters and blew up following the NBA draft combine.
Diallo is only 6-9 as a power forward but can slower opponents whole with his enormous 7-5 wingspan, which helps make up for his lack of size. Right now Diallo is a rim-running, rim protector who will do little to boost a team’s offensive spacing, but again that ever-present upside has scouts and general managers foaming at the mouth. A good comparison for him right now would be Bismack Biyombo and if that’s who he can develop into, then this will be viewed as a quality late first round pick for the Suns.

If Phoenix is able to come away from the 2016 draft with talents like Kris Dunn, Deyonta Davis and Cheick Diallo then they will have enjoyed a successful Thursday evening. The Suns have the flexibility to keep all of their picks, trade up, or trade for a veteran presence if they choose to. Diallo will likely need some time in the D-League next season and the Suns can keep a close eye on him as he suits up for the Northern Arizona Suns in Prescott Valley.

To read more about Cheick Diallo, <a href=.
